ABSTRACT

Situational theory is a leadership principle that connotes that the best course of action is based on the situation and its given circumstances. Scholars of situational theory suggest that four important contextual factors must be taken into consideration when assessing a situation. First, the relationship between leaders and members in the organization must be considered. Second, leaders should have a clear understanding of the task at hand. Third, the degree of authority held by a leader as dictated by the position is important to consider. Finally, the leadership style employed should consider the level of maturity of each respective employee. Nevarez & Wood –Situational leadership inventory is designed to aid leaders in assessing their usage of situational leadership theory. Two internal consistency estimates were employed to examine the reliability of the overall contingency-situation leadership inventory: split-half coefficient and coefficient alpha.
