ABSTRACT
A ccording to the National Center for Education Statistics, the lowest-achieving, highest-income students are more likely to complete a university degree than the highest-achieving, lowest-income students (as cited in Gould, 2012). In a democracy, family income should not be the deciding factor on whether or not a student achieves a university degree.
