ABSTRACT

Candyce’s story: Reflection seems to come naturally to some of us. If someone asks me how I feel about something, I usually find it easy to pause, think, and quickly determine what I think and feel about whatever I’ve been asked, and even provide reasons why I think and feel that way. It is a rude awakening when I discover that my students do not seem to have that reflection gene. It troubles me so much that I have spent a lot of time thinking and writing about it in my teaching journal, which I try to write in after every class I teach. Looking back at some of my journal entries, I came across this one that illustrates the power of reflection and that reflection is a skill we learn, not one that necessarily comes easily.
