ABSTRACT

The collaborative inquiry recounted in each begins with a local question or need about a particular course or departmental learning goal. One of the courses she, Amy Goodburn, was to teach was the second semester of the first-year writing sequence a course, the authors realized as coordinator of composition, they have not attended to sufficiently in recent years. People worry about the time commitment required for peer collaboration and review, but it looks more daunting than it is. This collaboration is intended to blur the boundary between the pedagogy and theory of the field. Their work has led to collaboration this fall on two grant proposals, a new course proposal, and a proposal to do a collaborative conference presentation, which they have no doubt will result in a collaboratively written article. The focus of their collaborative inquiry is a course called Observing Young Children.
