ABSTRACT

This chapter features three strategies that meet this test: a pedagogical colloquium used in faculty hiring, a professional development program for graduate students, and a departmental course-files collection, or teaching library. The author's goal is to provide as many opportunities for exchange and collaboration as possible. They begins by asking that all of their graduate assistants teach from standard syllabi. In addition to standard syllabi, they have implemented a mentoring system that encourages collaboration and exchange. They have also developed a portfolio system that allows GAs to evaluate student work together. Finally, they have all the graduate assistants prepare teaching portfolios, which are shared with others at the end of their first semester of teaching. Thus, the level of sharing and collaboration that occurs within our training program has started to ripple out to include faculty.
