ABSTRACT

In tweet chats, people come together on Twitter at a predetermined date and time, have a conversation about a topic or issue, and label all their tweets with the same hashtag so that people can follow along. More real-time content, such as updates on a sports event or tweets related to a conference or other live event, are obviously better when they are posted in the moment. Many academic conferences will create a hashtag for their event and encourage “live-tweeting” or use of that hashtag to post regular social media updates on Twitter and other social media platforms. To some degree, people learn about what works best for posting online to their specific audiences through trial and error. Most people post a mix of personal and professional, sharing about their meals out, things that inspire them, and accomplishments of their children.
