ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the major techniques for delivering humor to maximize its laughter potential in classes and in any professional presentation. Experience tells us that good and even brilliant humorous material can fall flat without effective delivery. The skillful choice of words will produce strong images that, in turn, generate the humor. The higher volume adds emphasis and, therefore, should coincide with the most important lines, especially the punch line. The rhythm for a one-liner is very different from that of a multiple-choice item. Gestures are a natural part of our communicative repertoire when we feel comfortable, relaxed, and uninhibited in our conversation with someone. The chalkboard is the most widely used and oldest visual aid in classrooms everywhere. The slide projector has become a very useful instructional aid in the areas of business and health where slides of financial information and photographs can be displayed effectively.
