ABSTRACT

Enrollments in online and continuing education grew strongly during LeBlanc’s first decade, so those programs were organized into the College of Online and Continuing Education (COCE). The price, publicized through extensive advertising, helped COCE enrollments increase to the point where they dwarfed campus enrollments. In 2011, LeBlanc conceived of a new Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) college that could improve the career prospects of working adults by developing their work-related competencies. SNHU’s mission statement explicitly asserts goals of quality, access, and affordability. The College for America (CfA) goals were also influenced by extensive collaboration with employers, especially those who had partnered with the university. CfA’s office of business and community partnerships, as well as its academic coaching infrastructure, were transformed into a service for all of SNHU. Even though CfA tuition is already comparatively low, about three-quarters of CfA student-employees use some form of tuition assistance.
