ABSTRACT

There is a growing expectation for researchers to find ways to ensure that their work is being read and affecting thought and practice. The classic approach is the formal academic paper, but this chapter includes a discussion of conferences, popular writing, and other approaches. It provides a framework for developing a proposal for research. It aims to support researchers in thinking through how they will let folks know about the work they have done and to respond to the ethical obligation for researchers to share what they have learned with the people from whom they have learned it. The final intent is always to encourage people to engage with the products of the research, but getting different people there takes different approaches. Researchers can use a huge range of approaches to help this to happen, and it is more and more often being seen as a fundamental responsibility of the work.
