ABSTRACT

This chapter displays and annotates a wide assortment of grading structures, with a focus on different ways that instructors can put together bundles and modules for final letter grades. The first section showcases nine courses from nursing, management, technical writing, communication studies, geography, psychology, and public health sciences. The second section shows three of the five bundles that Kathleen Kegley designed for her undergraduate course Management Information Systems. The additional work adds to the student’s content mastery and provides more application practice. The incremental requirements for a higher grade must be completed at a correspondingly higher quality level, but the requirements for the lower grades can be completed at the corresponding level. All grade tiers require attendance and participation in in-class discussions and activities. For one credit hour, students are expected to work approximately five hours a week.
