ABSTRACT

My What Can We Know? course is an introductory philosophy class that surveys basic rules for analytical inference and the appropriate use of evidence while at the same time grounding those rules in basic epistemology. It is a practical course, in my vision, even as we read Socrates, Plato, Descartes, and Hume along with a critical thinking textbook. And so we “step right in” and, as Chapter 5 suggests, right away on the very first day.
