ABSTRACT
Surprisingly (to me, anyway), Eddie did not get top grades in college. The reasons never seemed clear. He cared a lot about grades, and he studied hard. But somehow he was always disappointed. He would blame himself for not coming up to his potential, but as far as he know he never found the answer. Dave was very different. We became friends when he began to help him with chemistry. He had some great times when after a struggle the light would break through, and we would laugh in genuine pleasure. Dave was earnest, good natured, and honest. He didn’t care who knew how he struggled; he just wanted to understand. He found myself pulling for Dave. he came to love him, too.
