ABSTRACT

This chapter helps educators and learners who seek a more spacious way to reflect and engage in the learning process. Depending on the various roles they play in their professional and personal life, while they may begin with colleagues and students, perhaps they may be called to invite members of their community into a learning conversation as well. It takes courage to see past the limitations of formal learning, which often tends to narrow in on a few essential indicators of content mastery rather than see the larger picture in a more complex and beautiful world. As the society continues to face difficult conversations and histories around justice, equity, respect, and freedom, the chapter focuses on the power of listening and learning about themselves and about others. Stories often help readers to explore important questions and complicated issues; asking powerful questions recognizes the value of listening without judgment.
