ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the steps required to design and implement a curricular approach. A comprehensive assessment plan helps educators continuously monitor and improve all the components involved in an implemented curricular approach. The curricular approach includes developing educational plans that include strategies, developmental sequencing of learning initiatives, and strategy-level learning outcomes that guide the development of facilitation guides. The chapter identifies four considerations key for the necessary continuous improvement associated with the curricular approach. The first consideration for continuous improvement is that the design, implementation, and assessment of the curricular components is cyclical and should be conducted regularly. The second consideration for continuous improvement is to be specific, integrated, and essential. The third consideration for continuous improvement is to be open to a new perspective. The fourth consideration for continuous improvement is to revisit the entire curriculum as needed.
