ABSTRACT

Bet you thought you were done with the items. WROOONG! Now that you have a bundle of statements and anchors in draft form, other rather sticky icky issues can be considered that relate to the specific scale format, anchor structure and format, and response bias. The research evidence on these issues will be reviewed to guide your decisions on what adjustments need to be made in your draft rating scale. The seven issues covered in this chapter must be addressed now or later. You decide when you want it. Most of the issues are straightforward; only the nine types of response bias present formidable challenges. The decisions you make will affect the validity and reliability of the scale scores and their interpretation.
