ABSTRACT
Determining the impact of undergraduate research is a challenging endeavor. When I was teaching, I wanted to know what my students were learning, and as an administrator, I wanted to know how effective our programs were for students. Finding manageable ways to gather such information is a daunting task. The purpose of this chapter is threefold:
It presents a brief overview of research on the benefits of undergraduate research.
It gives a review of currently available assessment tools.
It describes informal ways for professors to gather information about the research experiences of their students.
