ABSTRACT

When CUR and the National Council on Instructional Administrators began our six regional conversations with community colleges in 2006 we did not know how widespread undergraduate research was at 2-year colleges. At the completion of the conversations in 2007 we felt that undergraduate research was an emerging pedagogy at some community colleges. Since then there has been a confluence of events that suggest undergraduate research is now far more prevalent across community colleges. CUR’s 2009 NSF grant engaged 380 professors from 95 colleges around the country in workshops to develop undergraduate research programs. In previous chapters, faculty who participated in the workshops described how they were inspired to engage their students in research and continue to do so.
