ABSTRACT

The first two chapters discussed what an education simulation is and some reasons why instructors might use them in higher education. Once instructors have made the decision to use simulations, they face three significant tasks: (a) designing the simulation, (b) managing its operation, and (c) debriefing and assessing it with the student participants. This chapter focuses on the first task, writing the scenario and developing the other necessary pieces of a simulation course. Chapter 4 looks at getting the simulation started and managing it, chapter 5 focuses on debriefing an education simulation, and chapter 6 emphasizes assessing it.
