ABSTRACT

Relatively simple educational simulations can take from several minutes to a complete class period. Others naturally carry over to a subsequent class period by simply allowing students more time to carry out their objectives or by staging different phases of the education simulation experience during successive classes. Once you do this, you begin the journey down the road to what we now describe—an extended simulation. There is no magical moment or length of time when an education simulation becomes extended, and we define one as any simulation that continues beyond a single event or phase. The example we describe here, however, is a semester-long course using a single simulation containing several overlapping scenarios.
