ABSTRACT

Michael was eight years old when he came to the United States with his parents. He is the oldest of four siblings. Michael’s parents were clothing merchants in Mexico and owned two clothing stores. Growing up, Michael’s parents played a key role in his educational goals. Michael parent’s were willing to do just about anything to make sure that he got a good education and attended college in the United States. Michael attended elementary school up to second grade in Mexico. Temporarily demoralized, Michael ended up attending a community college, which he felt was a good experience because the school had many programs to help undocumented students. Michael remains active in his community and has become engaged in political activism to enact laws that recognize him and the thousands of other undocumented students across the country who have deferred their dreams.
