ABSTRACT

Lilia came to the United States when she was 10 years old. She recalls fond memories of her life in Mexico before arriving here. Lilia remembers being very close to her family, especially her aunts and grandparents on her mother’s side. She was left in their care for a year before joining her parents and brother in the United States. Lilia came to the United States at an older age and thus remembers her childhood in Mexico very vividly. She received high recognition for her academic performance in Mexico. She was very proud of her quick transition to the honors classes after not understanding a word of English just two years earlier. Lilia learned about her undocumented status during ninth grade when she first started thinking about college. She has also been very involved in extracurricular activities in high school.
