ABSTRACT

Daniella always saw herself as different from the children she grew up with. Unlike her friends who were enjoying their youth, she grew up quickly and assumed adult responsibilities in her family at a very young age. Daniella grew up in an economically depressed neighborhood of Los Angeles after arriving in the United States at the age of four. Her mother worked in a factory, and her father worked in a restaurant. Daniella received $10,000 worth of scholarship money when she graduated from high school, most of which was the direct result of her community service efforts. Daniella began looking for a job when she realized that she would have to pay for college on her own. Daniella’s relationship with her parents has always been contentious. Daniella is determined to work hard and achieve success in her education, career, and life.
