ABSTRACT

Technology makes workplaces intelligent, connecting virtual workers easily. Three-fourths of all office workers believe smart technology makes them more efficient and productive, with half believing their company should invest more in integrated collaborative tools. Virtual managers and their teams struggle without training. With a bit of organizational support and training, managers release old habits, removing two major virtual roadblocks. A recent workplace study found the greatest barrier to successful program rollout was getting middle manager buy-in. Many workers worry about isolation and career invisibility. Organization leaders worry about company culture. In a virtual environment, collaboration platform and tool training brings fast return on investment for the technology averse, teaching practical skills and removing mental roadblocks. Meaningful work has turned out to be the most significant recruitment and retention tool.
