ABSTRACT

This chapter invites readers to experience the construction of multiple narrative space, as theorized in Chapter 2. By presenting a series of close readings of slash story modes, this chapter argues for a narrow understanding of each story’s own unique ideological and aesthetic qualities, set against a larger focus on the slash community as a space for the proliferation of perspectives and approaches. Thus, this chapter argues that slash as a category cannot claim any kind of ideological coherency except as a flexible space wherein the sexual body may be pleasurably manipulated, (de)constructed, and reimagined.
