ABSTRACT
This chapter explores why drama, especially comedy, was considered by early modern pedagogues to be one of the best available methods to teach moral concerns. The second part of the chapter explains the role and power of allegory. While allegorical drama is generally considered a medieval phenomenon, primary evidence from various sources is provided to demonstrate the ongoing popularity of allegory in the early modern period.
