ABSTRACT

Evolutionary scholars define leaders as individuals who maintain disproportionate influence over group decision-making. How leaders make decisions, and what they base decisions on is paramount. Big Data offers a tool for leaders in organizations to make fool-proof, entirely data-based decisions. Intuition, a decision-making tool in situations of incomplete or lacking data, has become obsolete, or so it seems. Albert Einstein once wrote that “the intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant,” adding that “we have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” Whom to follow – the rational or the intuitive mind? Apple CEO Tim Cook knows the answer, and so do modern-day “farm leaders.”
