ABSTRACT

We communicate more than we think – communication happens mostly at a subliminal level, with little, if any involvement of our conscious mind – which is most of the time occupied with “talking to itself.” Therefore, we communicate more than we think and more than we commonly think we do. Subliminal cues in our voice reveal a wealth of information to listeners we might not want to give away, most notably our emotional states. Eye contact is both a conscious and a subliminal form of body language, and like voice it carries more meaning than meets the eye. Taking a holistic view of how and what we communicate, we gain an understanding of what happens above and below the threshold of consciousness, and how we affect others, and vice versa.
