An important step in leader development is critical reflection, drawing lessons from one’s personal experiences. In this chapter, the PRSA Fellows reflect on what they’ve learned through their crucible experiences. This process can be uncomfortable because they also must confront their mistakes and times they did not live up to their personal ideals. Due to their strong drive for success, many of the Fellows struggled with overworking and not prioritizing their own health and wellness. Awareness of one’s weaknesses is an essential step to overcoming them. The revelations demonstrate that even those we consider to be exemplars are by no means perfect – they are indeed human.
