ABSTRACT

In this chapter, some suggested solutions have been offered to fight corruption in Africa. These suggested solutions are put together from numerous researches, interaction with numerous colleagues and groups. These suggestions include having the requisite political will, fostering an environment of transparency and accountability, building of Africa’s weak institutions, pay public-sector workers well, undertake lifestyle audits, cut bureaucratic red-tape, to mention a few. It is important to note that all these suggested solutions are good. In fact, some of these suggested solutions entail having the requisite laws on the books to fight corruption. But having the requisite laws on the books and not effectively or efficiently enforcing them will amount to naught. Similarly, offering these good suggestions to fight corruption without effectively and efficiently applying them will make them useless in the fight against corruption. Some of the suggested solutions to fight corruption like the role of traditional rulers, African religious leaders and religious organisations, African parliaments and parliamentarians and indeed, values orientation and re-orientation can be regraded as non-traditional solutions are equally important in the fight against corruption to bring about economic development in Africa.
