ABSTRACT

The kabouter's words had sounded a very sensitive chord in me. I knew I didn't create many happy moments for myself. Too often I dwelt on the past with regrets and looked to the future with fear. The kabouter seemed to sense what I was feeling. Now he took out his pipe and after lighting it, said, “Many people try to make new beginnings through their children. They go to great lengths to educate them to face future challenges and make them familiar with the fragility of things that can seem to be indestructible, none more so than the state of our planet. In fact, our best hope for the survival of our planet could be the proper education of younger generations. Our children and grandchildren could become better guardians of our Earth than we and our ancestors have been.”
