ABSTRACT

The pace of decision-making in the field of education is like no other. We stand in a classroom or hallway, have a brief dialogue, make a decision and begin to implement. The danger in this is that our decisions become reactive rather than proactive. Decisions occur in a vacuum and are not generalized beyond that learner and moment. In a world where you can internet search to find any document instantly, we have lost sight that the power is actually IN the process. We must inquire into the root cause, hear from stakeholders, weigh options and develop a solution to be systematically implemented. This chapter offers insight into the practical experiences of fully engaging in the process in order to find collaborative solutions. It explores the concept of ditching standardized problem-solving and developing your own unique approach customized to the needs of your stakeholders.
