ABSTRACT

In this final chapter, we walk through an approach for the readers to activate their plan to redesign special education. Readers will be asked to sit down with a timer and work through a series of activities. They will begin with a three-minute brainstorm of five areas that they don’t like in their role in special education. Ideally, these are five areas of conflict, but they can be anything that isn’t working from their perspective. Then, they have one minute to select the one they want to explore and innovate. From there, they will have five minutes to brainstorm all creative solutions they can think of. Solutions can be anything—realistic or otherwise. They will then have three minutes to sort these into categories. Next, they will be asked to identify three partners who should be brought in to brainstorm other ideas. At least one of those partners needs to be someone outside of the school setting. The series of steps goes on to guide the reader to engage their partners and begin to research and refine the ideas to possible solutions.
