ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on the findings of all the previous chapters. Issues arise, including rediscovery, the choice of talking to poor people, and future research and action needs. The discussion on rediscovery explores how and why findings seem to have been repeated in books and articles for many decades and how we could reduce this cycle. The chapter includes a critique of the choices in both the literature and primary research, focusing on the questionable nature of choosing poor people as the focus of research and intervention. Future directions for research and intervention using the contextual knowledge generated in the other chapters are also provided. The final comment on the many different contexts, pathways, and problems in the previous chapters asks how long people will continue to struggle to get by.
