ABSTRACT

Rap is a delivery style that includes rhyme, rhythm and spoken language, usually delivered over a beat. African storytelling is an enactment, an event, a performance. It’s not just a spoken art but also a way of life. Metaphors take an audience’s routine experiences and links them to ancient art tradition. The combination of figurative images creates the final experience of the lyric poem. The oral traditions of Africa, the lifestyles of Africans and the history and culture of Africans were preserved, in African nations, through a system of oral transition from generation to generation. Hip-hop is one of the most sweeping and influential types of rap. The musical style incorporates rhythmic beats and/or rhyming speech. A form of human communication wherein knowledge, art, ideas and cultural material is received, preserved and transmitted orally from one generation to another.
