ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the legislative requirements relating to personal protective equipment and the selection and management of such equipment. Most PPE falls into one of the following categories: head protection, eye protection, hand and arm protection, foot and leg protection, protective clothing, hearing protection, and respiratory protection. Within this chapter, guidance is provided on how to select, use, and maintain the common types of PPE available within these categories. Due to the specialist nature of respiratory protective equipment (RPE), the relevant guidance is detailed separately where necessary for ease of reference. Reference should be made to Chapter 13 for further information on the provision of personal hearing protectors.
