ABSTRACT

Workplace violence can constitute both physical violence and verbal threats. Examples of workplace violence can include physical assault, verbal abuse, and certain aspects of workplace bullying. Apart from the potential of permanent injuries arising from workplace violent assaults, there is also the real possibility of employees suffering psychological damage both in the short and long term. These risks can be exacerbated by lone working. This chapter focuses on the prevention of workplace violence, as well as developing a workplace violence policy, detailing the process of dealing with violent incidents and risk assessments regarding lone working. It also discusses developing workplace violence policies and mitigating the risks posed by travelling abroad for work.
