ABSTRACT

We do better & because we know better. Evidence-based practice is concerned with approaching practice decisions from a planned and informed perspective, with the aim of maximising positive outcomes for neurodivergent children and families. Evidence-based practice is based upon clinical expertise, the preferences and wishes of the child and family, and the relevant recent research evidence available.

This chapter explores the three core elements of evidence-based practice, with specific relevance to supporting neurodivergent children and their families. Ideas and strategies for adopting an evidence-based practice approach within practice are discussed. This chapter presents methods of sourcing, gathering and collating evidence, and further explores the applicability of an evidence-based practice approach, in the context of creating supportive environments for neurodivergent children and their families.
