ABSTRACT

Every university has strict policies to maintain academic integrity. The university’s reputation depends upon candidates abiding by the rules of this road. Attendance policies vary among programs, but it is advised to read the syllabus carefully along with program handbooks so a candidate is well aware of the expectations. Ignorance is not an excuse. Policies concerning plagiarism and the use of AI cannot be ignored. Violations of policies could result in suspension or expulsion from the program and university. If a candidate is accused of violating policies, there is a structured process for filing appeals or grievances. Abiding by the rules of this road is essential if a candidate wants to be considered an ethical researcher. This chapter will cover the significant policies that affect doctoral candidates.
