ABSTRACT

Dissertation planning can begin long before the committee is assigned. Determining a topic, considering bias, and creating a plan for your journey are some things to consider in advance. The time spent planning the dissertation is much like a research expedition. Investigation, discovery, and exploration are all part of this early process. Spending time and energy on establishing the topic and understanding your own bias early in the process may assist you as you progress toward the end goal of graduation. This chapter will walk through the process of choosing a topic, narrowing the topic, analyzing the feasibility of the topic, and creating a realistic expectation and plan for research.
