ABSTRACT

There is a difference between terminal degrees in education. Prospective candidates can choose between a PhD or an EdD, depending on their professional goals. Picking a program aligned with these goals is essential if a candidate wants to earn a degree that will help them influence their profession. Before beginning a doctoral program, a prospective candidate should research the universities that offer the programs and whether these programs are accredited. Financial commitment can be a barrier to starting this journey. However, if a prospective candidate makes informed decisions based on the facts of each program, the barriers to success are significantly reduced. This chapter will review the different types of degree programs and how to select a program that fits your career goals.
