ABSTRACT

As a candidate prepares to begin their doctoral degree, reviewing their knowledge and skills is highly recommended. Like preparing for any challenging journey, knowledge of personal learning styles as an adult learner can be extremely helpful. Some candidates believe they can manage their learning the same way as undergraduate candidates. These programs are created to meet the instructional needs of adults, which requires more independent learning activities instead of focusing on the instructor’s knowledge base. Knowing how you learn and organize will help you grow self-efficacy and battle self-doubt during the tough road ahead. This chapter will review the theories of adult learning, self-efficacy, and how these theories apply to your journey as a doctoral candidate.
