ABSTRACT

When widows lose their life partners, they also lose their financial partner, their social partner, their emotional partner, and many of their hopes for the future. Dreams of what could have been in their life path as a couple are terminated. This chapter highlights some therapeutic modalities that have helped people suffering from PTSD, such as mindfulness training, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR). The chapter also introduces some self-help resources such as various support groups, therapeutic websites, and organizations with a history of helping people navigate the changes and challenges in their lives. Implications for clinical practice, education, and research in helping professions are discussed.
