ABSTRACT

This Principle involves an inward focus. Specifically, it centers upon motivating your team, day-in and day-out, to perform at their highest level, always a bit better than the day before. If they are performing to their best, what the competition is doing does not matter. Accordingly, various theories and research concerning motivation are reviewed, from Maslow to Pink, all sharing different aspects of behavioral influence. Of note, these theories and research are blended and drawn upon in the author's creation of a six-dimension paradigm for motivation, which poses applicable questions about your workplace. Lastly, the Principle highlights the two most prominent and basic questions that any leader must address for individual or team motivation: What's in it for me (WIIFM?) and why should I care (WSIC?)?
