ABSTRACT

You read about it every day. A new boss comes in and dismisses the old team. Replacements come in who are “in-synch” with the new boss. The boss does not have to change at all. This is not only wrong, but it can be counterproductive. It also flies in the face of servant leadership. In this Principle, service as one of leadership's fundamental underpinnings is discussed, considering its characteristics of moral compass, concern, and self-reflection. Further, the need for situational leadership (i.e., adjusting your course) is broadly highlighted, including the pros and cons of several different styles. Lastly, examples are provided on how to bring your true leadership style to the forefront when you are engaged with your team members.
