ABSTRACT

Practice counts! It's one thing to casually make a free throw in your backyard when no one is watching. It's another thing if the gym is packed and you are on the road. This principle focuses upon striving for excellence in the form of continuous improvement. To this end, several team tools are discussed such as Kanban, A3, and Gemba Walks. At the personal level, highlighted continuous improvement practices include role-playing, mirroring, improvisation, simulations, focus groups, and business case studies. The theme throughout this principle is to “practice in game conditions” and with a “game mindset.” For this latter point, continuous improvement is discussed through the lens of repetition, awareness, and systems thinking.
