ABSTRACT

Favorable employee recognition is one of the most important, yet underutilized, tools for a manager. When done properly and effectively, employees feel appreciated and valued. It contributes toward a team member's level of motivation and satisfaction; it contributes to your team's culture. When recognized, employees see a direct line between what they do and how it contributes to the organization's success. In this Principle, trends in recognition programs are discussed. Also, various managerial considerations are highlighted such as the who, what, when, and where of recognition. In addition, perspective is provided on the significance of celebrating success (an often forgotten exercise), as well as tips on how to get started today by embracing various elements of recognition.
