ABSTRACT

When it comes to recruiting, managers are often told to emphasize a candidate's “fit” as a key consideration. While “fit” does make sense in terms of competence and team chemistry, managers often mistake this term to mean that they should hire in their likeness and stress conformity. Yet, assessing potential team members with a cookie-cutter approach is not the solution. In this principle, the topics of diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) are explored, beginning with why diversity is not only the right thing to do but also the best practice to embrace for your business. The discussion highlights the business case and overall benefits of diversity, outlines a specific roadmap for building and inculcating at DEI program in an organizational setting, and concludes with perspective about the balance between your personal and professional life.
