ABSTRACT

Alexander Korda was born in Hungary and began life as a journalist. Production during the 1930s is largely identified with the work of Alexander Korda who may be said to have created or re-created the image of British films during that decade. Korda has an artist’s obsession with the medium. Korda conceived the film as a process controlled at every stage by a single individual and he built the studios at Denham as a means to this end. Korda’s views were particularly striking when set against the current practice of British producers. Korda formed London Film Productions in 1932, with Lajos Biro, the Hungarian playwright, as his story editor and his brothers Vincent and Zoltan as active partners.
