ABSTRACT

The family De Smet was referred to me by Jason Sonck, who is an acquaintance of father De Smet. The oldest daughter is self-harming, and that is the reason why they want family therapy.

It is a therapy with a family with two grown up daughters (20 and 22 years old). In the beginning of the therapy the oldest daughter's automutilation is the focus of the therapy. Later in the therapy, after the oldest daughter stopped cutting herself, the younger daughter presented her main problem: gender dysphoria. She wanted to become a man.

This is a story of the family therapy with the family De Smet. In the story a lot of the main themes from the book are integrated (emotions of the therapist, client feedback, self-supervision, the complex alliance, etc.).
