ABSTRACT

In family therapy the therapeutic relationship is more complex than in individual therapy, as the therapist must have a good relationship (empathy, trust, etc.) with each of the family members, and as also between the family members there must be a relationship of trust.

Given the complexity of the therapeutic relationship in family therapy, the person of the therapist is an even more important factor for the effectiveness of the therapy. But what exactly then is the challenge for the family therapist when he/she tries to deal with this complexity in the session?
